Whitefield Corner, Wiveliscombe - Min Temp 6 degrees
This week Winter Moths have been common here with more at actinic light than at our MV Robinson trap but despite warmer conditions the heavy rain seems to have discouraged other species.
However the discovery in a neighbour's house of a Western Conifer Seed Bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis) is very exciting. It is a native of the western half of the United States and only arrived in the UK, at Weymouth, in 2007. James McGill, who kindly identified the bug from a photo, tells me that Bill Urwin has reported two and others have been recorded on the Dorset Moths website.
