Recorder's remarks etc.
It is always good to find a new site especailly if that site is easier to get into and if the site is close to home even better. I have been trapping at Park Wood, Chaffcombe, since I came to Chard three years ago. With the permission of the owners John and Val Godsmark. I am grateful for their help in gaining access to their wood. Just up the road from from Park Wood on the other side of the road is Pouletts wood. No moth records in this confusing wood of massed conifers with occassional wet flushes and broadleaved woods where the conifers would have died if planted. No or very little maintainance is done. Being short of time to gain access to Park Wood "gates and all" I popped the Actinic in the middle of a wet flush near the road.
This is the result
Only 7 records exist and only 2 seen since 2000 and never has more than one been seen. At Pouletts wood I had two White-marked. A good result
I also saw several clouded drabs like you do at this time of year and I was hoping to find Lead-coloured drab but no luck. However they are so variable so i took a picture of this variant on the theme
Please go to Who's who - some confused species to see an article done by my chum Barry Dickerson on the indentification of moths common to us all. Its a pity life can be so tricky.
Best wishes for all trappers let me know if you need help
